Story
Our company history
The family history begins long before 1927, of course, but this is where the family history that is inextricably linked to the company begins. Josef Ante founded his small craft business, a sawmill in the beautiful Sauerland, in Winterberg-Züschen. Even back then, the location was perfectly chosen, as it is surrounded by lush forests. This has characterised the company's philosophy ever since - wood of short distances. Back then, he mainly produced sawn timber, pit wood and wooden handles, including for brooms. After the war, his sons joined the company. Erich took over the management and Alfred took care of the technical development of the business. The two brothers developed and expanded the sawmill. Processes are mechanised and production facilities are modernised. In the mid-1960s, the need for planed goods was recognised and a corresponding plant was installed. At the end of the 1960s, the production of timbered construction timber was started. A decade later, Josef Ante GmbH was founded, followed a year later by ante-holz GmbH and the development of the second site in the neighbouring town of Bromskirchen-Somplar in northern Hesse.
After handing over the management of the company to Erich Ante's son, Jürgen Ante (now Managing Director of the ante Group), the company passes into the hands of the third Ante generation. From now on, the locations are consistently expanded and modernised and the product range is constantly expanded. The company grows into one of the major players in the European timber industry with various offshoots and additional locations in Germany and Poland. The fourth generation of the Ante family, Julia Ante, takes over responsibility in the management and with the fifth site in Berga and the sixth site in Rötenbach, the ante Group has become a full-range supplier in the early 1920s. Production includes sawn timber, planed timber, glulam, solid structural timber, cross-laminated timber, biofuel such as wood pellets, home and garden products and green electricity. Produced regionally, the products are now in demand worldwide. The Ante family has made the transition from a small craft business to a state-of-the-art company and producer of future-proof, climate-friendly and sustainable timber products. As an employer for around 1400 employees and a reliable partner for people and forests.
