KVH® (solid structural timber)
The ante Group produces KVH® (solid structural timber) from spruce, pine and Douglas fir using state-of-the-art technology. KVH® has become the indispensable material for modern timber construction due to its defined quality and dimensional stability. It is suitable for all applications in modern timber construction. Thanks to our radio data transmission-supported production and storage concept, it is also possible to realise commissioned goods at short notice.
Production begins with the careful technical drying of core-separated squared timber to a wood moisture content of 15 % (+/- 3 %). This corresponds to the expected wood moisture content during the planned utilisation, so that major shrinkage deformations due to post-drying of the wood in the building are excluded.
The dried squared timber is sorted visually and mechanically. Irregularities in the wood, such as large knots or tree edges, are marked and cut out. Sorting is primarily carried out in order to achieve a defined quality in accordance with DIN 4074/ EN 338 (strength sorting).
At the ends of the now differently long sections, interlocking prong-shaped profiles are milled, which are glued together under pressure. This enables the efficient production of technically standardised squared timber in a wide range of assortments. Once the glue has hardened, the components are planed and bevelled.
The advantages compared to conventional sawn softwood:
- KVH® is subject to strict external and internal monitoring by MPA Stuttgart and Holzforschung Austria, Vienna.
- Reduced cracking and warping due to core separation and drying of the wood.
- Fewer knots due to mechanical sorting in accordance with German and European industry standards.
- KVH® is planed and bevelled on all sides.

Production and technical properties
KVH® (solid structural timber) is manufactured from softwood, at ante in the wood species spruce, pine and Douglas fir, into raw rafters on ultra-modern profile chipping systems. The resulting sawmill by-products such as bark, wood chips and shavings are completely utilised for energy generation.
After drying in fully automatic, computer-controlled drying chambers, the timber is sorted according to strength. Strength-reducing, growth-related defects are cut out of the beams. The resulting raw rafters are joined together at the ends using a so-called finger joint to form theoretically infinitely long strands.
After finger-jointing (which can be omitted if required, depending on the length), the timber is cut to length and planed precisely.
Curing and storage takes place in air-conditioned warehouses so that the timber is delivered dry and dimensionally accurate. Permanent quality control (in-house monitoring and external monitoring by independent institutes) accompanies all production steps.
